Automating Vocals: Take Vocals Tracks
to The Next Level

Automation is what separates men from boys and pro mixes from amateur mixes. While automation is used widely to fix the balancing problems EQ and compressor alone cannot do, it is capable for much more. Take vocal tracks to the next level by automating vocals:

Automation is a handy tool when you need to change the volume (or any other parameter for that matter) of a track during a mix. It is used for fixing mixing problems, improving balance and guiding the focus of the listener.

Using volume volume automation gives much more even vocal tracks and you can highlight the parts that you want. It is the most common way to use automation.

In addition it’s useful to automate send effects, such as reverbs and delays to make them fit better in the mix and serve their purpose more accurately. Automating vocal delay for example, can fill the spaces between words and decrease or increase the volume of the effect when needed.

Also automating different parameters of EQ, de-esser, gate or compressor can be helpful way to improve balance of the mix.

By automating an EQ of a vocal track, you can remove an unwanted frequency that pops out every now and then, but isn’t audible the whole time. There’s no need to EQ more than needed.
