Songwriting Tips:
Do This for More Impactful Chorus

Today it’s critical to keep the attention of the listener alive during the entire song. The song has to be interesting from start to finish. Usually the hook of the song is the chorus melody and therefore choruses are super important. You want the first chorus to be as impactful as possible.

I have a cool songwriting / arrangement tip for you today. You can create way more impactful choruses by variating how you go into them. Let me show you what I mean:

By pausing all the instruments (especially bass and drums) just before the chorus begins, you can make the chorus feel more impactful. Silence is a great way to grab the listeners attention.

However, that’s not something you want to do before each and every chorus. Variation is the key in keeping things interesting, as you can hear all of the examples in the video.

The next time you’re writing a song, try this method to add both impact and variation.

Hopefully you found this video helpful. If there’s anything you want me to cover in the future videos let me know. Send me an email or leave a comment below. Ask if there’s anything unclear or if I left something out. Cheers!
