Creating More Interesting Metal Intros

In this video, you’ll find three steps to create more interesting metal intros. While some of them might be more obvious ones, others are somewhat sneakier. Watch the video to find out what you could do to boost your introductions to be more engaging.

Did the intro get better, more engaging and interesting? I think it did. With these simple steps you can take a good intro and make it better. The three steps aren’t rocket science, but they do make a difference.

As a home studio musician / songwriter / producer / mixing and mastering engineer, you have to think a little differently on every phase of creating a song. When you’re arranging a song, try to focus on keeping things interesting and engaging from the first second to the very end.

The first step is to change the rhythm from double time to halftime or vise versa. Any kind of rhythmic change is a great way to keep things interesting.

The second step is to add some simple octave guitars. Obviously they can be something else entirely – like synths for example –, but the point is to add an element behind the main riff to give it width and size.

The third step is to add ambience and vibe with an instrument. I used synth strings in this example. You want your music to sound unique, right? Synths are a great way to add that little extra.

Hopefully you found this video helpful. If there’s anything you want me to cover in the future videos let me know. Send me an email or leave a comment below. Ask if there’s anything unclear or if I left something out. Until next week, cheers!
